Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Acts 8:39And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
Philip was preaching the Good News in Samaria and then the Lord told him to go to a specific road leading towards a desert place. Philip is obedient in where the Lord tells him to go and it is here that he that he overhears an Ethiopian Eunuch reading the passage from Isaiah. When Philip explains to the Ethiopian about the salvation that Jesus Christ has to offer, the Ethiopian then orders the chariot to stop so that he can be baptized. Right after the baptism, Philip is carried away by the spirit of the Lord. Philip then finds himself in Azotus.
This scripture reminds me of a Dr. Seuss book titled, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" In the story a boy sets out and explores the world, experiencing the ups and downs of life. When I think about how the Holy Spirit whisked Philip away, it gets me excited. There is a sense of adventure there. Being a servant of God is not a dull or boring life calling. It is a life filled with adventure, wonder, miracles, and dangers. Where will the Holy Spirit lead me to next? What task is God setting before me today? When I have a "Yes" heart, I will really go places! Sometimes it may seem like a place I don't want to go, but if God is calling me there, I need to listen! He has an awesome plan and He alone has the power to place me in the right place and right time.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the plans You have for my life. I repent, Lord, of my stubbornness and fearfulness. I ask that You would fill me with Your Holy Spirit, that I may follow You wherever You lead. I love You, Lord. I say "Yes" to the call. Change me from glory to glory. I want to be more like You. I pray all this in Jesus Christ's name, Amen.
