Holy Fire

Leviticus 6:13 Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.

As I read through Leviticus, this verse stood out to me. The book of Leviticus is explaining God's law and what must be done in order for the people to be cleansed of their guilt and sin. The Lord uses these laws to teach and acclimate His people to His Holy ways and also to pave the way for Jesus' ultimate sacrifice for salvation. God commands them that the fire for the burnt offerings shall not go out. This reflects God's character as well in that God's Holy fire never goes out. Whenever we realize our guilt or sin, we can bring that to God's altar and ask Him to burn it away with His holy fire.

I really love the illustration of God being a silversmith and us being the silver, refined in the furnace. I think that it clearly portrays how God needs to burn out the impurities in order to make us pure and holy, in His image. Fire is such an interesting element. It is very useful but at the same time so dangerous. People say, if you play with fire, you will get burned. Today, I am learning that it is in God's Holy Fire that I can truly be purified and refined. What am I holding onto that I should alow Him to burn up. It may be that I'm unintentionally holding onto these sins. I must pray to the Lord to make it clear to me so that I may be free from sin's bondage and be willing to toss it into God's fire. His fire is there all the time. His forgiveness and cleansing grace will always be available until Jesus returns again.

Heavenly Father, please reveal to me those things that I am holding onto. Lord, I pray that You would give me eyes to see my faults, my unintentional guilt and sin, and give me the strength to let it go. Lord, thank You for being willing to forgive me at anytime. Jesus, thank You for making it possible for God to forgive me. I love You, Lord. Please continue to refine me and purify me. Make me more and more like You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
